Dr. Fabrice Berrue, UPEI/Nautilus Biosciences Canada, will present a seminar on Wednesday, February 5 at 12:30 pm. Dr. Berrue's presentation is entitled "Natural products Chemistry: Expanded Mission and New Opportunities." The seminar will be held in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, Lecture Theatre Room 212. All are welcome to attend.
As chair of the search committee for the Dean of the School of Business I am pleased to announce Dr. Juergen Krause as a candidate for the position. Dr. Krause is currently a faculty member and Interim Dean in the School of Business. On Monday February 10 at 2:00 pm, Dr. Krause will make a public presentation. The presentation will be in McDougall Hall, Room 328 and all faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend. The topic of his talk will be "Describe your vision and fit for the position of the Dean of the School of Business at the University of Prince Edward Island." Join Laura Simms, an award-winning performer, writer, and educator for an evening of storytelling on Thursday, February 6 at 4:30 pm in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, room 242. Laura received the Brimstone Award for Engaged Storytelling, CHOICE award for best story collection, and Sesame Street’s SUNNY DAYS award for work with children worldwide. Laura is the mother of Ishmael Beah, former child solider in Sierra Leone, and author of A Long Way Gone, an international best-seller. A reception with refreshments will follow. Tickets are $20 and include admission, light refreshments, and one drink ticket per person. A portion of every ticket sold will be used to raise funds for the Dr. Vianne Timmons International Student Award. Visit upei.ca/idw to purchase tickets.
Staff and faculty are invited to The Wave on Wednesday, February 5 at 9:00 pm for an evening of globally focused and Olympic themed trivia. Staff, faculty, and students will answer questions in teams, with prizes to be awarded to the top teams. All are welcome.
Join students, staff, and faculty on Wednesday, February 5 for "Storytelling Night" from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Faculty Lounge, Main Building. The evening will be hosted by Dr. Tim Goddard, global educator, and feature stories from Dr. Ed MacDonald, Island historian and professor, Susan Hartley of the non-profit organization Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, and UPEI international students. Take part in an evening of laughter, wonder, smiles, and tears through the telling of personal journeys, people’s histories, and published works. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend!

The UPEI Women's Studies Program is officially changing its name! We are now officially Diversity and Social Studies (DSJS for short)--a name change we're all very excited about. This new name more completely reflects the variety of courses and approaches offered in the program, through both its core courses and the range of courses cross listed from other fields/disciplines. Changes will be made to the academic calendar and timetable, and in other places on the UPEI website, throughout the semester. We are excited to announce that the UPEI Outdoor Rink is now ready and open for skating! The rink is located between the W.A. Murphy Student Centre and Kelley Memorial Building, and is open from 7:30 am-9:00 pm daily with ice quality subject to ice conditions. Don't have skates? Skates are available to borrow from the Panther Central Desk in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. Please note: The Sports Centre is still accepting donations of skates and helmets. We welcome all staff, students, faculty, community members, and of course your families to come out for a skate. We ask that you review and abide by the guidelines below, these are also posted at the rink. A big thanks to the UPEI Outdoor Rink Committee made up of representatives from UPEI Student Union, Administration and Finance, Facilities, Integrated Communications, and Athletics and Recreation who worked together to make this possible. Stay tuned in the coming week for details on an upcoming campus event at the rink.
