Emiley MacKinnon, a fourth-year biology major, is conducting a research project on the presence of urban coyotes on Prince Edward Island as a part of the Canid Ecology and Behaviour class. Jeela Palluq-Cloutier will present her Master of Education Thesis Defense on Friday, March 21, at 3:30 pm in Memorial Hall, room 417. Thesis Title: "The Standardization of Inuktut in the Education System in Nunavut." All are welcome.

On Thursday, March 20 from 4:00-6:30 pm, UPEI's Master of Arts in Island Studies will host an info session in Room 222, Kelley Memorial Building. The MAIS program offers the first interdisciplinary graduate program in international, comparative island studies in Canada, and one of the first of its kind in the world. This thesis-based program is designed for working professionals and those who want to develop expertise in island issues, whether it pertains to PEI or to other world islands. Many of the classes are offered in the evenings, which provides flexibility and convenience to fit a variety of schedules. UPEI and the Canadian Association of Physicist- Science Atlantic Physics Lecture Tour will be hosting a seminar talk by Dr. Paul François, Department of Physics, McGill University on Wednesday, March 19 at 12:30 pm in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, Room 212. Dr. François’s presentation is entitled “Towards a Physics of Evolution?” All are welcome to attend.
The 2014 Grad Week Committee is looking for nominations for the following awards and positions, all nominees must be graduating. Just send the name of the person you are nominating to vpactivities@upeisu.ca with a brief description on why they deserve the award. Nominations will be accepted until noon on Friday, March 14. The Owen MacDonald Memorial Award - Awarded by the Senior Class of ‘70 and succeeding Senior Classes This award is presented to a graduating student for excellence and the outstanding contribution to the Senior Class in his/her final year of study. The Crescam Serviendo Award (May I Grow By Serving) - Dedicated by Class of ‘72 This award is presented to both a male and a female member of the Senior Class who has contributed most to the life of the University during their years attending UPEI. The Class of 98 Leadership Award – Established by the Senior Class of ‘98 This award is presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated leadership and has made a considerable contribution to Campus Life, particularly to the Senior Class. The Senior Class Spirit Award This award goes to someone who really exemplifies UPEI pride. This is for someone who has taken pride in UPEI during his or her years of attendance, and who shows and overall love for the UPEI spirit. Life Executive Awards The Life Executive will be responsible for the affairs of the Class of 2014, including maintaining communications with the Class of 2014 as trust officers of Class funds, and as a liaison between Alumni and the Class of 2014. The next deadline for submitting Biosafety Protocols including new applications, renewals, and/or amendments, is Friday March 28. These protocols will be reviewed at the April meeting. Please ensure that you download and use the current forms from http://research.upei.ca/forms. Use Adobe Reader to complete the forms. Submit one copy of the original protocol with signatures to 200 Kelley Memorial Building and send one e-copy to reb@upei.ca. Persian night: On March 15 at 11:00 pm, The Iranian Society will host a perfect night with Iranian musics at The Wave. This event is $5 per person, and is a 19+ event. Movie Night: On Monday, March 17 at 8:00 pm in Main Building, Room 117, The Society will host a movie night featuring "About Elly," an Iranian movie by Asghar Farhadi - winner of an Oscar for The Separation - with English subtitle. The cost is $2, or free for those who also attend Persian night. Save the date: 4 Shambe Souri- The Iranian Society is hosting an Iranian cultural event which is celebrated on the last Tuesday night of the year, March 18 (based on the Iranian calendar).
