The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC)'s General Meeting and Symposium 2014, "Making Connections: Cooperating for a Sustainable Future" will kick off on Thursday evening with a public presentation by keynote speaker Joanna Kerr, Executive Director of Greenpeace Canada. She will present "How to be courageous in a planet in crisis," at 7:00 pm in McDougall Hall, Room 242. The event will be followed by a networking event. All are welcome to attend. More about Joanna: Joined Greenpeace Canada in October 2013 after serving as the first female Chief Executive of ActionAid International, a global development organization based in South Africa and operating in 45 countries. Much of her career has been dedicated to women’s rights, international policy and climate change; as Policy Director at Oxfam Canada, as Executive Director of the Association of Women’s Rights in Development, and as a Senior Researcher at The North-South Institute. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is pleased to offer university students across Canada the opportunity to win a $2,000 bursary. Students will want to familiarize themselves with the Partnership for Research Trade (PRT) and produce a brief video on the merits of supporting its objectives. The videos must be creative, original, and fun, no more than 3 to 5 minutes long. It should address one or more of the three objectives and promote support of the PRT. Participants are to email their videos to prt@chamber.ca where a Project Coordinator will post the video onto the YouTube channel. In addition to the $2,000 bursary, the winning video will be featured in the PRT communications campaign. The goal of this contest is not only to create more awareness among youth on the importance of Canada’s natural resource sectors, but also to further interest and engage our younger generation in one of Canada’s key policy and economic issue. In order to be eligible for the bursary, contestants must be full-time registered students of a Canadian University. In addition, students must "like" the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) on Facebook, follow CCC on Twitter, and subscribe to the CCC’s YouTube channel. There will be a UPEI biosafety training session on Thursday June 26, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, AVC, Room 286A. Topics to be covered include basic biosafety principles and how they are applied at the University of Prince Edward Island, as well as biosecurity training. Please note: only those who attended a training session after November, 2012 are currently considered to be “up to date” in their training requirements.
