UPEI Athletics and Recreation will host the eighth annual Shoot for the Cure fundraiser on Friday, February 6 with a series of activities leading up to, and during, the UPEI women’s basketball game starting at 6:00 pm versus the Acadia Axewomen. Shoot for the Cure is a fundraising initiative by the CIS Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) and other related charities. The campaign goal is $6,000. Staff and faculty can support the women’s basketball team by purchasing a Shoot for the Cure t-shirt ($12) at Panther Central or the UPEI Bookstore, a paper icon ($1) from Panther Central, or through the “Gofund” donation page at: http://www.gofundme.com/k3xv14. The "UPEI Students Make a Difference," Brown Bag Lunch Series session, featuring Jayoda Tennekone and Rhyanne Beatty, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 10 at 11:30 am in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building. Jayoda Tennekone's presentation is titled "Improving International Relations in Your Own Community: Learning From the Diverse People Around you," and will be followed by Rhyanne Beatty's presentation titled “How to make a difference through the study of languages.” Light refreshments will be provided and a door prize will be given out to one lucky attendee!

A search committee for the Dean of Nursing has been established. Dr. Rosemary Herbert has expressed a willingness to extend her term as Dean for an additional three years, as per UPEI policy. Therefore, the Search Committee is charged with carrying out a review and making a recommendation regarding her reappointment. In order to carry out that review effectively, the Committee will be seeking input from members of the University community. Dr. Johanna Wolf, Associate Professor for the School of Environment and Sustainability at Royal Roads University, British Columbia, is a candidate for UPEI's new Canada Research Chair in Sustainability, Resilience, and Island Contexts. Dr. Wolf will make two presentations, both of which will be open to the campus and research communities. A general presentation, entitled “Better off or Worse for Wear: Sustainability and Resilience Through Climate Adaptation," will take place on February 9, 10:30–11:30 am in AVC Lecture Theatre A. A technical presentation, entitled “Connect, Collaborate, Co-produce: Shaping Climate Change Adaptation to Foster Island Resilience and Sustainability," will take place on February 10, 2:00–3:00 pm, in AVC Lecture Theatre A. The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation will host the fourth presentation in the International Development Week Brown Bag Lunch Series, on Thursday, February 5 at 12:00 pm in The Wave, W.A. "Desserts and a Difference," will be this year's keynote event for the 2015 International Development Week celebrations! The UPEI Charity Club invites the campus community to the showing of “Ryan’s Well” on Wednesday, February 4 from 2:00–3:30 pm in K.C. Irving Chemistry Centre, room 104, in celebration of UPEI's International Development Week. "Ryan's Well" is an inspirational story about a boy who was determined to make a difference in the lives of the people living Angolo, Uganda. Through Ryan Hreljac’s fundraising efforts, thousands of dollars were raised to build a well for the village. This documentary follows Ryan’s story from his first conversations with his Ugandan pen pal to the day he visited Angoloand saw the well for the first time. Refreshments will be provided! All are welcome to attend.

Dr. Anja Vogt, National Research Council Charlottetown, will present a seminar on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 12:30 pm. "Could 'Infusing' University Writing with Narrative Medicine Practices Promote Public Health?" Dr. Wendy Shilton Wednesday, February 11, 2015, 7 pm Main Building Faculty Lounge, UPEI This talk explores the burgeoning multi-disciplinary field of Narrative Medicine (NM) and asks whether it could be effectively applied in university writing courses to strengthen public health benefits. Among the topics examined are the origins of NM within the medical humanities; what is meant by “narrative” in NM; how NM connects the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences; and, ultimately, what NM has to do with undergraduate critical literacy practices that potentially could be integrated across the curriculum to promote greater quality and equality in health and health care for all.
