One of the biggest challenges in a workplace is to understand the dynamics of how people work together. In today’s workplace the ability to identify team dynamics and understand positive and negative outcomes is a key component to building successful teams. 

This two-day course will explore team dynamics using guided role play, exercises and practice sessions, you will discover:
• five stages of team development;
• how to identify communication problems; 
• how to maximize performance; 
• strategies for managing conflict;
• decision-making strategies; 
• how to create a shared vision for success

The UPEI Multicultural Song Circle meets every Tuesday in Main Building Lounge from 4:30 - 5:30. All students, staff, faculty and community are welcome. Come when you can. Title: Substrate-product Analogues as Inhibitors of Racemases and Epimerases by Stephen L. Bearne, Dalhousie University, March 21, 2018 at 12:30 pm in Duffy Research Centre, Room 212.

Abstract
Rational approaches for the design of enzyme inhibitors furnish powerful strategies for developing pharmaceutical agents and tools for probing biological mechanisms. I will present a new strategy for the development of gem-disubstituted substrate-product analogues as inhibitors of racemases and epimerases. Some of these enzymes, such as glutamate racemase, serine racemase, and alpha-methylacyl-coenzyme A racemase (AMACR) are targets for the development of therapeutic agents. As one example, I will discuss the development of inhibitors of AMACR, using the Mycobacterium tuberculosis enzyme as a model. The human enzyme is a potential target for the development of therapeutic agents directed against prostate cancer. AMACR binds N,N-dialkylcarbamoyl-CoA substrate-product analogues with affinities that exceed that of the substrate by ~250-fold and that are proportional to the hydrophobicity of the alkyl groups. Overall, the results reveal that gem-disubstituted substrate-product analogues can yield extremely potent inhibitors of an epimerase with a capacious active site.

Dr. Martha Mellish, of AVC’s Equine Ambulatory Service, will give a free public workshop, entitled “A pain in the gut: Managing equine digestive issues,” on Wednesday, March 21, at 7:00 pm, in Lecture Theatre A, Atlantic Veterinary College, UPEI.

Horses have complex gastro-intestinal systems and can have equally complex digestive problems. The more knowledge horse owners have about these issues, the better they can understand and appropriately manage digestive conditions affecting their animals. Using a practical model, Dr. Mellish will explain the equine gastro-intestinal tract and talk about common medical conditions that can affect it.

Everyone is welcome. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served. For information, contact (902) 566-0589.

There will be four exciting presentations by influential healthcare workers that you won’t want to miss if you are considering working in the healthcare system.

Ethics protocols that involve ‘more than minimal risk’ must be reviewed by the full UPEI Research Ethics Board. The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Monday April 6 2018. They will be reviewed at the April meeting. Protocols involving ‘more than minimal risk’ that are received after April 6 will be reviewed at the May 2018 meeting. 

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve ‘more than minimal risk’, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

Take your kids and spend St Patrick's Day at the Campus Life Lounge (located in Student Affairs above the bookstore) for science experiments with the Let's Talk Science volunteer group, St Paddy's Day crafts and some diving in our super-fun BALL PIT!

The science activities planned for the day are "Elephant Toothpaste," which is a fun bubble-filled activity and "Ozobots"; easily programmable robots for kids. 

Lets Talk Science is a volunteer-based program offering a wide variety of meaningful science, technology, engineering, and mathematics learning experiences to kids.
