Ethics protocols that involve ‘more than minimal risk’ must be reviewed by the full UPEI Research Ethics Board. The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Monday April 6 2018. They will be reviewed at the April meeting. Protocols involving ‘more than minimal risk’ that are received after April 6 will be reviewed at the May 2018 meeting. 

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve ‘more than minimal risk’, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received. 

Please ensure that you download and use the current forms from http://www.upei.ca/research/forms. Use Adobe Reader to complete forms.

Submit the following: 
• one hard copy of the signed application form and associated documents to Joy Knight at the Office of Academic and Research, 200 Kelley Memorial Building and 
• one e-copy of all documents to reb@upei.ca

Take your kids and spend St Patrick's Day at the Campus Life Lounge (located in Student Affairs above the bookstore) for science experiments with the Let's Talk Science volunteer group, St Paddy's Day crafts and some diving in our super-fun BALL PIT!

The science activities planned for the day are "Elephant Toothpaste," which is a fun bubble-filled activity and "Ozobots"; easily programmable robots for kids. 

Lets Talk Science is a volunteer-based program offering a wide variety of meaningful science, technology, engineering, and mathematics learning experiences to kids.

You are invited to attend UPEI's 3 Minute Thesis competition, where graduate students will present their research in 3 minutes or less. The competition will take place on March 19 at 6:30 pm in HSB 105. All are welcome to attend. Come support UPEI graduate students and enjoy hearing about diverse research studies happening on campus.

On Wednesday, March 21st, the UPEI Pre-Med Society will be hosting a “Health Career Conference” in Don and Marion McDougall Hall (Room 242) from 6:00-8:00pm. The theme of this evening is “Informing the Next Generation of Healthcare Workers” and the conference will showcase different health professions, shed light on current healthcare issues, and educate students and community members interested in a career in healthcare about the realities of working in the healthcare system.

There will be four exciting presentations by influential healthcare workers that you won’t want to miss if you are considering working in the healthcare system.

Calling all Grade 7-10 girls!

Go CODE Girl Day is a hands-on opportunity for girls in Grades 7 to 10 to learn about the exciting world of computer programming and software development. We will introduce and inspire girls with the skills needed to pursue interests in the fastest growing industries of technology, computing and engineering. UPEI SSDE is excited to be a participant in Go CODE Girl Day, which is an initiative that takes place at 20+ universities with Engineering programs across Canada! The Rotaract Club of UPEI meets weekly on Fridays at 2:00pm, Robertson Library room 209 (room subject to change). Find us on facebook, all students welcome, always accepting new members!

Rotaract Club is a service club that works with leaders in the community to help local organizations, develop leadership skills, and have fun serving others.

Dr. Martha Mellish, of AVC’s Equine Ambulatory Service, will give a free public workshop, entitled “A pain in the gut: Managing equine digestive issues,” on Wednesday, March 21, at 7:00 pm, in Lecture Theatre A, Atlantic Veterinary College, UPEI.

Horses have complex gastro-intestinal systems and can have equally complex digestive problems. The more knowledge horse owners have about these issues, the better they can understand and appropriately manage digestive conditions affecting their animals. Using a practical model, Dr. Mellish will explain the equine gastro-intestinal tract and talk about common medical conditions that can affect it.

The Department of Psychology is pleased to present the second candidate for the position of Faculty Member and Director of Training for UPEI’s new Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program. Dr. Butler will give two talks: the first is a simulated classroom presentation about his research and the second will outline his vision for the PsyD at UPEI.

The first presentation on Thursday, March 15 at 2:30 pm where Dr. Stephen Butler will present his research talk entitled “The role of treatment evaluations in improving young people’s mental health: The case of Multisystemic Therapy (MST)”. It will take place in McDougall Hall, room 243.

The second presentation will take place on Friday, March 16 at 9:45 am where Dr. Stephen Butler will present "Achieving excellence: A blueprint for the PsyD program at UPEI". It will take place in Memorial Hall room 417. (Please note that this is a room change.)

The next deadline for submitting Biosafety applications including new applications, renewals and/or amendments is Friday March 30 2018. These applications will be reviewed at the April 2018 meeting.

Research on Tap is returning on March 20 at 6:30-7:30 pm in The Wave (located in the W.A. with a presentation by Dr. Andrew Carrothers entitled, "The impact of public scrutiny on executive compensation: Evidence from the financial crisis."

The event is open to all students, faculty, and staff at UPEI as well as the broader PEI community.

This event is brought to you by the Graduate Students' Association with support from the UPEI Student Union. There will be free nachos for graduate students who attend!

Wanting to learn how to knit, have a passion for knitting and want to teach others, or do you want to knit in a social environment? If so, this event is for you! We will have knitting needles and yarn to spare, or bring your own items if you wish. There will be students present who know how to knit and are ready to teach you!
Knitting is an excellent stress reliever, and you can use or wear whatever you make.

Located in the Campus Life Lounge, which is in Student Affairs (above the Bookstore). We usually have tea, hot chocolate, coffee and snacks in the Campus Life Lounge as well. Join us on March 15 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm.

Learning is an action that only the student can own and control. As an instructor, what can be done to help support the development of student core skills, like learning how to learn? In this workshop, instructors will be introduced to three key skills that contribute to more efficient and effective learning. Those skills are how to take quality notes, how to read for learning, and how to study effectively. This is information instructors can take away and share with their students.

Offered by the E-Learning Office, this workshop will take place on March 26th from 10:00 to 11:00 am in Room 265 of the Robertson Library. REGISTER
