Bobby Cameron

Meet Bobby Cameron, adjunct faculty member with UPEI's Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture program

Bobby Cameron brings a wealth of experience to the ACLC program. He has worked in agriculture and fisheries, health, immigration, veteran's affairs, research centres, retail, and tourism, and he has lived and worked in Saudi Arabia, Kenya and Malta in the not-for-profit, private, and public sectors.

Since graduating from UPEI in 2009 (double major in History and Political Studies), Bobby has excelled in the interrelated worlds of governance, volunteerism, and academic study. He has a master's degree in Public Policy and Administration (Ryerson University, 2010) and he is currently completing a PhD thesis in Policy Studies at Ryerson University. His research explores public sector policy capacity, policy theory and practice, and the sociopolitical context of policymaking. He has published four single-author articles, and he has presented multiple conference papers and non-academic public presentations. While his academic profile has been growing, he has quickly moved up through the ranks in PEI's civil service. He has a wealth of varied experience in the federal and provincial public sectors. Among others, he has held positions at the Department of Veterans' Affairs, the PEI Association for Newcomers, Health PEI, and now the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries where he currently serves as the Manager of Policy, Planning, and Federal/Provincial/Territorial Relations. He is fast becoming a regional expert in public policy and administration.

As a volunteer, Bobby has supported a range of social mandates and organizations including the World University Service Canada's Student Refugee Program, the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation, Marsa Open Centre for migrants and asylum seekers (Malta), and Farmers Helping Farmers (Kenya). He has received awards for his community work, including the Premier of PEI's Diversity Leadership Award, the Red Cross Young Humanitarian Award, and the Dan MacIntyre Human Rights Award.

Bobby Cameron is a dedicated advocate for a liberal arts undergraduate education as an excellent starting point for a broad range of careers. Drawing upon his own academic experience as well has his subsequent work as a manager, Bobby provides students in the ACLC program with valuable insights concerning the world of NGO and public sector employment and how to make the most of an undergraduate degree at UPEI.
