English 3910 - Shakespeare in London and Stratford: Exploring Plays, Playhouses, and Place

May 6–9 - Classes at UPEI
May 13–26 - Travel in the UK
June 15 - Completion of the course:

There is nothing like seeing a live performance of Shakespeare, especially at the Globe Theatre in London or in Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-Upon Avon. This 3000-level course explores Shakespeare through performances, workshops, backstage tours, and site visits in both London and Stratford. The course begins with a week of classroom discussions at UPEI followed by 12 days of travel. Students will see at least 4 plays and visit the Globe Theatre, Shakespeare's birthplace and grave, the archaeological dig at the Rose Theatre foundations, as well as a dozen other galleries, theatres, talks and historic sites that locate Shakespeare in the places he was writing in, about, and for.

Students will receive 3 credit hours in English at the 3000 level; since space is limited, priority will be given to those who have at least one 1000-level English course. More information on this opportunity will be posted soon, but you may contact Dr. Shannon Murray, Faculty of Arts, Department of English by email at smurray@upei.ca.
