Hydrogen Learning Network: International Community Energy Challenge

International Community Energy Challenge

May 15-22, 2019

Summary for Student Participants

5 Groups
5 Students
5 Countries
5 Challenges

The goal is to connect students with industry and to grow the hydrogen network by solving real problems for real people around renewable energy. The Challenge will see five sustainability related challenges come from clients (community and or industry) from the Faroe Islands.

These challenges will be solved by five students coming from five countries (Canada, Iceland, Norway, Scotland and the Faroe Islands) represented on the hydrogen learning network. Each institution involved will select five students from multiple disciplines and levels of study (one engineering, one business, one communication, one environmental or climate change and one 'wild card' to be determined by each institution). Teams will be created having one student from each country. The students will be selected by the respective academic leads.

The academic institutions will also have one mentor/faculty member with each student group. This mentor will oversee and guide the student team while respecting the open ended approach. In essence, they focus their teams first thing every morning and then join up during the day to tackle the challenge.

The challenges will all come from the Faroe Islands so the students can actually work with their clients. The clients will also mentor and guide the students while respecting the open ended solution space.

The Challenge will end with the merging of the teams presenting solutions to the clients.

Note: Students graduating in May 2019 are not eligible for this program; students must be returning to full-time studies in the fall of 2019.

This opportunity is heavily funded and will be a competitive process. For more information, please contact:
