Description:Awarded to two students entering the second year of a four-year Arts degree who are Canadian citizens, demonstrate financial need, and have a minimum average of 70% in first year. The award is renewed if the student maintains full-time status and a minimum average of 70%.
Background:Nona and William (Bill) Heaslip, principals of the Heaslip Family Foundation, established renewable scholarships at the University of Prince Edward Island to support undergraduate students. Nona Macdonald Heaslip's father, Colonel Ronald Hugh Patrick Macdonald was born in Summerside, PEI. He attended Saint Dunstan's University, UPEI's predecessor institution, from 1901 to 1904. Nona Macdonald Heaslip is an established public relations consultant and has worked in many areas of journalism. Nona has served on many boards ranging from education to theatre, as well as various clubs. William Heaslip is the co-founder of Grafton Group Ltd., and built what became one of the largest men's clothing companies in Canada. Mr. Heaslip is a Member of the Order of Canada Nona and Bill's enduring success is measured by giving back to their country's important institutions, including higher education. A family legacy is established at the University of Prince Edward Island through the Heaslip Renewable Scholarships
