Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Psychology at the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown.

We are a vibrant and diverse Department, with a strong history and tradition in humanistic psychology. Our current interests span the field of Psychology, embracing quantitative and qualitative approaches to psychological knowledge and its generation.

In our courses you can explore the full range of ideas that gave rise to and continue to influence psychology as it exists today. You can examine the historical origins of psychology, study how humanistic, behavioural, developmental, cognitive, and neuroscience approaches contribute to our understanding of people, and learn how diverse clinical approaches are used to work with people in therapeutic settings.

We have active research networks with colleagues locally, nationally, and internationally, and our instructors have won awards for their teaching, both locally and nationally. We also have a thriving student society, Psychology Arts and Sciences Society (PASS), which fosters rich connections among our students, and between students and faculty.

The Department of Psychology is committed to offering a challenging curriculum that captures the diversity of psychological theory, praxis, and research, and which prepares our students in many ways for a wide range of career and postgraduate opportunities. We welcome your inquiries.
