The Department of Pathology and Microbiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Clinical Pathology. Appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor level. UPEI is committed to teaching, service and research. AVC has 240 DVM students, over 50 graduate students, 67 full-time faculty, and a professional and technical team of 225. It has full accreditation by the AVMA/CVMA and delivers DVM, MSc, MVSc and PhD programs.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in veterinary clinical pathology, participate in diagnostic service duty, and develop and maintain an independent and/or collaborative externally funded research program. Participation in the graduate program will mainly involve training within the MVSc-residency program, but will also involve teaching and supervision of graduate students at the MSc and PhD levels. The Department of Pathology and Microbiology is seeking to develop strength in molecular pathology and/or the use of immunologic markers. The diagnostic clinical pathology laboratory at AVC has state-of-the-art equipment and is staffed with contributions from five clinical pathologists (four are American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) board certified) and seven staff members. It provides high quality service to both the AVC Teaching Hospital and clients from the four Atlantic Canadian provinces.
The successful candidate will:
- have demonstrated teaching and research skills;
- have a DVM or equivalent degree;
- be board-certified or eligible for certification by the ACVP in clinical pathology;
- hold a graduate degree in veterinary clinical pathology, a PhD is preferred but other graduate degrees in clinical pathology will be considered;
- possess well-developed skills of collaboration, relationship-building and communication;
- be eligible for licensure with the Prince Edward Island Veterinary Medical Association.
Rank and salary are dependent on qualifications and experience. Applications will be received until January 31, 2010 or until a suitable candidate is found. The preferred starting date in July 1, 2010. This position is subject to budgetary approval.
