The Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for the development, completion and implementation of the updated Emergency Management Plan. This includes completion of agreements with external agencies, development and coordination of critical incident and emergency response training exercises, development of emergency plans for individual buildings and development of policies and protocols that reflect emergency management best practices.

The Emergency Management Coordinator reports to the Vice President, Administration and Finance of University of Prince Edward Island.   He or she is accountable to the Vice President, Administration & Finance:
• To lead the implementation of the revised Emergency Management Plan
• For training and information sharing of emergency management processes and protocols
• To assist the Vice President to complete Memorandums of Understanding (MOU’s) with external emergency providers
• To lead and complete individual building emergency plans
• Design and implement a comprehensive Emergency website
• Responsible for document management for emergency management records, support plans, education and awareness

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•   Collaborates with Directors/Managers to ensure activities reflect the overall goals and objectives of the Department
• Manages and directs the development, implementation, maintenance and revision of emergency response programs, support plans, education, awareness and training
• Manages the Emergency Operations Centre to ensure the maintenance, assets, product shelf life, advancement in equipment and communications supplies are in operational readiness at all times. Establishes the call centre for the University in the event of an emergency
• Manages the design, coordination and direction for the University’s emergency response and business continuity exercises
• Conducts training sessions and presentations to familiarize employees and students with the Emergency Management Program for awareness of their responsibilities and safety in the event of a disaster
• Builds and maintains a collaborative relationship with post-secondary institutions, municipalities, provincial and federal governments, non-government organizations and other agencies to ensure a coordinated and effective response to emergency planning, response and recovery
• Directs and oversees the development, maintenance and updating of business continuity plans to departments and schools
• Develop and maintain emergency plans for individual buildings
• Supervises and directs work of administrative assistant
• Maintains and monitors budget related to Emergency Management and Operations
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree plus certificate in emergency management
• A Minimum of five years’ experience in emergency management or positions which include involvement in emergency management activities
• The position requires considerable organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities and demonstrated, superior attention to detail.  The successful applicant honors commitments by tracking projects and meeting timelines
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, team-building and leadership are essential.  Familiarity with post-secondary educational environment and detailed knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal laws and regulations is an asset
