UPEI is seeking a two research coordinators for the Concussion Awareness Program that is being administered by the Patient Oriented Research Clinic located on the UPEI campus. The primary role for the individuals will be to develop and implement a province-wide Concussion Awareness Program. The individuals will be responsible for creating, and organizing the delivery of educational materials to students across the island to increase awareness of concussive injuries and post injury management.   

Additionally, the individual will be involved in developing and conducting research projects which are specifically related to the programs offered at the Patient Centred Research Clinic at UPEI. To this end, the successful candidate will be involved in planning, implementing, analyzing and presenting elements of various research projects within the clinic.

The main area of research in which this individual will be responsible includes testing the efficacy of baseline testing, conducting baseline tests and follow-up testing and programs involving exercise for individuals with persistent concussion symptoms, to establish a more comprehensive return to work/play decision. The individual will be a member of the concussion research team at the university and as such will be required to discuss the outcomes of the testing with various health professionals, patients and research participants.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Planning and implementation of the Concussion Awareness Program
• Delivering concussion educational module to students across the island
• Program evaluation
• Conducting concussion assessments on individuals using a variety of standardized protocols and techniques specific to the Patient Centred Research Clinic at UPEI
• Analyzing data using various types of software (especially SAS)
• Conducting reviews of current concussion assessment techniques
• Assisting the team with project development on a variety of topics within the area of patient oriented research
• Contributing to the writing of scientific research projects for publication
• Communicating with patients and various health professionals, when and where appropriate
• Assisting the clinic manager with the development of documents which outline patients’ progress on assessments

ELIGIBILITY:

This position is partially funded under the Graduate Mentorship Program offered by Skills PEI.  To be eligible:
• You must be a recent post-secondary graduate within the last five years and looking for full time employment
• You must be legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizen or permanent resident)
• Other criteria may apply

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters of Science or equivalent, with an emphasis in concussion research
• Knowledge of and ability to use statistical analysis software (i.e. SAS, Excel)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
• Strong writing, report creating and data analysis skills
• Access to personal transportation
