Sessional Instructor - Department of History & Classics - Faculty of Arts (Summer 2018)
The Department of History and Classics at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach the following course during the 2018 Summer Session (May 14 - June 21):
Course: HIST 3090-4: “Special Topics: Confronting Terrorism in Today’s World"
This course traces the roots of modern terrorism and its contemporary manifestations. Topics include the impact of the September 11th tragedy; the present struggle with ISIS and other Al Qaeda associated organizations; the historical use of terrorism among such entities as the Irish Republican Army (IRA), the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), the American militia movement, and Irgun; the roles played by the American and European criminal justice systems, the military and intelligence services, diplomacy, foreign aid and other forms of “hard” and “soft” power in combating terrorism; and the link between terrorism and the media.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants should have a minimum of a Master’s degree in History or a related discipline, and teaching and/or research experience that addresses the history of terrorism and its contemporary global context. Qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Department of History & Classics will be given priority.
This position is subject to budgetary approval.
