The two objectives of this research are to address the shortfall in numeracy skills by developing pedagogically sound instructional videos and then examine the impact of the videos on student learning. The student assistant (student teacher) in collaboration with Dr. Miller would design and deliver mathematics lessons that involve the use of the mathematics videos.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In collaboration with Dr. Miller, the position involves designing and delivering 8 mathematics lessons (using mathematics videos) for an after school program for children in grades 4 to 8. The after school program will run from the week of March 4th to the week of April 29th. Topics focus on the foundations of mathematics such as multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals. The position will involve delivering and scoring assessments that will be used for research.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A background in mathematics at the early years level
• Teaching experience at the primary/junior level or intermediate/senior level
• Availability to teach in the evenings
• Ability to develop a good rapport with students
