Summer 2019

The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in summer 2019.

ED-4200 TEACHING FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH (STEM)  (1 FRENCH SECTION)

This course introduces students to the pedagogies, practices, and instructional alternatives that foster acquisition of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes critical to success in the sciences, technology, engineering and maths.

This is a three semester-hour course offered on campus in French to students in our Bachelor of Education program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 12 to August 13 (and also Friday, July 19), from 8:30am to 11:20am.

ED-4230-1  PRIMARY/ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS I

This course examines the pedagogy of Primary/Elementary Mathematics. Instruction focuses on how children learn mathematics, what it means to engage children in doing mathematics, teaching mathematics through problem solving, and curriculum sequencing. Underlying these foundational ideas for teaching, students will have the opportunity to re-learn key areas of mathematics in a twenty-first century approach to teaching and learning.

This is a three semester-hour course offered on campus to students in the Primary/Elementary stream of our Bachelor of Education program, from June 4 to August 13 on Tuesdays from 5:30pm to 8:20pm.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will hold a Master’s degree in Education. Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Where courses are offered on-line using multi-media technologies, applicants will normally be able to demonstrate successful on-line teaching experience.  Candidates who do not have previous online teaching experience must be open to and willing to do extra training for this delivery model, and without additional compensation.

In addition, candidates applying to teach graduate courses will normally have established expertise, and successful leadership and/or teaching experience in a context related to the foci of the cohort.

In all instances, qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Faculty of Education will be given priority.

THE OFFERING OF THESE COURSES IS CONDITIONAL PENDING FINAL ENROLMENT NUMBERS.   ALL SESSIONAL COURSES ARE SUBJECT TO THE FINAL BUDGETARY AND ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVAL.
