The Hon. Diane F. Griffin will be UPEI's 10th Chancellor.

The Chancellor is the volunteer, titular head of the University of Prince Edward Island and a member of the Board of Governors. The Chancellor of the University presides over convocations; confers all degrees, diplomas, and certificates; and acts as an important liaison between the University and the wider community. The Chancellor is a distinguished person who has an expressed interest in and commitment to the University and reflects its spirit, vision, and values.

Last year after the Honourable Catherine Callbeck completed her term as Chancellor, the University initiated a search and invited nominations for an outstanding individual to fulfill the terms of this prestigious role for a renewable four-year term ending June 30, 2027.

On November 23, 2023, it was announced that the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, alumna, honorary degree recipient, and retired senator, had been unanimously elected as the 10th Chancellor of the University of Prince Edward Island for a four-year term, ending June 30, 2027. An installation ceremony will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 2:30 pm in the theatre at the new Performing Arts Centre (enter via PAC 216S and 217S). All are welcome!
