Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for November 6–13 are Lexie Murphy (women’s hockey) and Kaleb Pearson (men’s hockey).

Murphy is a science student from Kensington, PEI. The fourth-year forward broke out of her scoring slump during a game on November 10 when she scored two goals in a 4-2 win over the Mount Allison University Mounties.

“Lexie was effective at both ends of the rink. She was really good in the faceoff circle, defended hard, and was in attack mode offensively,” said head coach Sean Fisher. “She also demonstrated great leadership qualities as she always does.”

UPEI men’s hockey forward Pearson, from St. Marys, Ontario, is a third-year arts student who continues to score at an elite pace. He notched a goal in seven of the last eight games and leads the conference with 11 goals. This past weekend, Pearson scored three goals in two games, including two against the Acadia University Axemen, who the Panthers defeated 4-0 on November 10.

“Kaleb is playing at a very high level right now,” said head coach Forbes MacPherson. “From the start of the season, he has focused on being a leader and taking care of the group. He is playing the right way and getting rewarded for his efforts.”
