The MA Island Studies program, in collaboration with the Institute of Island Studies, is hosting a lecture on Monday, April 8 (10:00 am, Faculty Lounge, Main Bldg) by Ms. Elizabeth (Ellie) Maclean, a PhD candidate from the University of Rhode Island. The talk is entitled 'The Importance of Local Ecological Knowledge in Small Scale Fisheries of the Dominican Republic.' Godfrey notes that Ellie is a member of the International Small Islands Studies Association (ISISA), and has authored the Hispaniola Contribution to A Taste of Islands (Island Studies Press, 2012). MAIS thesis defences coming up: Mr. Andrew Halliday's defence will take place at AVC in Rooms 286B & 286C North on April 8 from 1-4 pm. Title: Archipelagic Matters and the Law of the Sea: The Case of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Republic of the Philippines" Ms. Dolores LeVangie's thesis defence will take place on Friday, April 12, at 10:30 am in AVC, Lecture Theatre 286B & 286C North. Title: Bridging ‘Islands of Medicine’: Balancing Medical Pluralism on La Isla De Chiloé Congratulations to JoDee Samuelson, who successfully defended her thesis yesterday.
