Dr. Debbie MacLellan will lead a discussion on the phenomenon of the "helicopter professor": "We are all familiar with the term "helicopter parents." But what about the "helicopter professor"? Last September, I came across an article by Maryellen Weimer entitled "Examining the Helicopter Professor Label," and it made me feel intensely uncomfortable as I reflected on how my teaching has changed over the past 'almost' 30 years. This brown-bag lunch will provide a definition of the "helicopter professor" and a discussion about how much we need to 'hover' over our students." All are welcome to join the discussion!
