Physics Employers

The Department of Physics at the University of Prince Edward Island was pleased to announce in 2003 the launch of its new Physics Co-operative Education Program.

Now is an exciting time in our department, as all our faculty are NSERC-funded and actively involved in research.

Our students develop a broad skill set that will allow them to perform well in government, industry, and academic environments. Some of these tools are:

  • understanding of fundamental physical principles that govern our world
  • problem-solving and analytical skills that are applicable in all areas of life and science
  • excellent communications skills, both written and oral
  • good teamwork and leadership skills
  • technical expertise

Why employers should hire through UPEI

  • small class sizes result in one-on-one training
  • post-graduate-level research capability for Physics undergraduates proves more helpful and applicable in employment and industry
  • Maclean’s magazine recently ranked UPEI in the top 5 primarily undergraduate universities for number of student who have won national awards

Core Courses – Years 1 and 2

  • General Physics I & II
  • Mechanics
  • Modern Physics
  • Electricity and Magnetism
  • Electronics and Instrumentation

Core Courses – Years 3 and above

  • Mathematical Physics
  • Statistical Physics I
  • Statistical Physics II
  • Quantum Mechanics I
  • Quantum Mechanics II
  • Experimental Physics
  • Honours Project

Students are accepted into the Co-operative Education Program in Physics during their second year of study. The program allows students to integrate study and work terms, and requires completion of a minimum of four work terms (12-16 weeks). This valuable work experience complements the up-to-date coverage of fundamental and advanced topics provided through our course offerings.
