Teaching Excellence

At the University of Prince Edward Island, we have a long history of teaching excellence. One way we see this in the number of instructors who have been recognized with teaching awards at the institutional, regional and national level. In addition, UPEI consistently ranks highly among Canadian universities in student satisfaction with the quality of teaching and the quality of the overall educational experience. Our faculty and instructional staff are highly rated by students who describe their professors, lab and clinical instructors and teaching assistants as knowledgeable, inspiring, caring and engaging. Our smaller class sizes ensure that faculty and instructional staff get to know their students and students get to know them. At UPEI we challenge students to be their best while giving students and instructional staff the attention and support needed to succeed.

The Teaching and Learning Centre’s commitment to instructional excellence, quality programs and innovative practice is demonstrated by a number of university-wide teaching and learning initiatives such as regular professional development opportunities, the advancement of scholarly teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning, internationalization and Indigenization of curricula, and incorporating experiential education experiences into courses and programs. These support the professional development of our instructors whose teaching excellence has been recognized with various awards.
