How do I connect to PANTHERNET-OPEN?
This network does not offer encryption of wireless traffic, therefore any Internet activity should be considered as insecure. However, no additional software or configuration is required to make the connection. Anyone with a UPEI username and password can use this network.
When you search for wireless networks on campus, select PANTHERNET-OPEN and click connect. Once connected, bring up your favorite Internet Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and you will notice that the start page in your browser has been redirected to an authentication page. After entering your UPEI username and password you will be allowed full access to the Internet so that you can read email, browse the web, etc.
Although there is no encryption on Panthernet-Open, web sites performing sensitive transactions generally use an encryption protocol called SSL (Secure Socket Layer) so you are not completely without protection.
