The Department of Pathology and Microbiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College is seeking applications for a student assistant position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the Bat Information Hotline operated by the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative, Atlantic Region
  • Collaborate with other team members of the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative’s bat health program to support ongoing North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat) Activities on Prince Edward Island;
  • Manage, maintain, and map bat occurrence data sets to provide information on the distribution and species diversity of bats on Prince Edward Island;
  • Opportunities for other activities as they arise (e.g., field or laboratory work related to specific research projects, literature searches, database searches, writing blogs)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of and experience with bats or bat biology
  • Prophylactic vaccination against rabies is essential
  • Experience utilizing a variety of computer software programs
  • Independent work habits
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of biological science sufficient to integrate, assess and communicate scientific information is required

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
