The GeoREACH lab in the Applied, Communications, Leadership, and Culture program is seeking a Research Assistant(s) to support research and data entry related to land use, food, and policy history in Atlantic Canada. The Research Assistant will be supervised by Dr. Joshua MacFadyen, Director. The GeoREACH lab supports Geospatial Research in Atlantic Canadian History and other projects of the ACLC program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produce historical research using primary documents
  • Participate in the weekly team meeting
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Perform data entry and summaries
  • Organize research results in databases such as Google Docs and Zotero

Additional Tasks May Include:

  • Aerial photo interpretation
  • Working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with data management (spreadsheets)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications

Asset Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Atlantic Canadian history
  • Knowledge of food and agriculture
  • Experience with GIS
  • Driver’s license and ability to travel to various PEI archives

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
