The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering at the University of Prince Edward Island is seeking applications from the competent and eligible candidates for a Student Research Assistant positions in environmental sciences/agricultural engineering and related expertise including water resource modelling, land use land cover development and identification of potential sites for rainwater harvesting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The focus of these research positions is to develop land use land cover for the study region using high-resolution imagery. The incumbent will be investigating and identifying the potential sites for rainwater harvesting, potential flood risk zones based on the knowledge of land use land cover maps, farming density, precipitation pattern and best environment management practices
  • The incumbent should be familiar with temporal based land use land cover changes, trend analysis, and familiar with online web mapping interface
  • The incumbent should have sufficient background and experience in working with ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro and must be acquainted with spatial analysis using satellite and drone images
  • The incumbent will assist the graduate and undergraduate students of the Group Lead with research data collection in laboratories as well as in agriculture fields across Atlantic Canada
  • The incumbent will assist in manuscripts and report writing for various projects and research trails of the Group Lead
  • The incumbent should have presentation skills and must demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • The incumbent will have an ability to work in a research team and as an individual

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences/Agricultural Engineering or related disciplines
  • The incumbent should be familiar with necessary software skills such as Minitab, GIS, R Studio, QGIS and Microsoft Office
  • A prior research experience will be an asset
  • Qualification includes good academic record, scientific writing skills, preparation of scientific papers, a strong work ethic, capability to work in a team and independently and willingness to work in lab and field environments

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
