The English Language Centre is seeking a qualified student assistant to support online socio-cultural programming for its programs (English for Academic Purposes (EAP), EAP Customized Programs & Explore).  Participants in each program have formal language classes during weekday mornings and organized online socio-cultural activities during weekday afternoons; there will be some optional evenings and weekend online activities.  Student assistants are responsible for assisting with the operation of the English Language Centre’s socio-cultural activities and creating a friendly, welcoming, and supportive environment for new and returning international students.    

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The student assistants report directly to the Activity Coordinator and have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with the organization and supervision of the English Language Centre's online socio-cultural activities, including student orientation
  • Participate in online or in-person staff meetings and coordinate events with staff and coordinators
  • Assist with planning and executing weekly online workshops on various academic themes and/or information sessions
  • Provide online academic and socio-cultural support for new and returning international students
  • Liaise with and provide support to other departmental projects on campus such as initiatives with the International Student Office
  • Assist with general office duties
  • Other duties as assigned by the program managers

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency / Experience with using online technologies such as Zoom, Google Meet, etc. to design and run socio-cultural activities completely online
  • Experience organizing and implementing events and/or team-oriented activities online
  • Completion of two years of post-secondary study or equivalent experience
  • Leadership experience, within a camp and/or an educational setting
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency in English and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with adults
  • Experience working, studying or volunteering in cross-cultural settings

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
