Maintenance Repair, Grounds and Snow Removal Foreman - Department of Facilities Management

This position will supervise and direct dedicated resources and contractors to ensure proper routine and preventative maintenance is completed, as well as emergency repairs. Includes organizing tasks and preparing work schedules work orders, participating in day to day hands-on maintenance and any other related duties as may be delegated. This position requires the successful candidate to provide supervision to subordinates, coordinate contractors to complete operational maintenance and project work. It involves a high level of cooperation with other Facilities Management staff. This position will require the successful candidate to provide direction to the snow clearing & ground maintenance lead hand on weekends and evenings as required. This position will also require being on-call after hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Maintenance Repair, Grounds and Snow Removal Foreman will be responsible for the supervision and direction of maintenance staff. This includes the assignment of duties, oversight of quality control and prioritization of work within the unit, ensuring adherence to university and department policies and procedures. The position is also responsible for the management of material and equipment purchases and equipment maintenance within the department. The Foreman will occasionally oversee smaller renovation projects in support of capital projects, ensuring safety standards and procedures are maintained according to the UPEI, Municipal and Provincial codes and standards throughout the project, Including Workers Compensation and H&S Act.
The Maintenance, Grounds and Snow Removal Foreman will monitor, analyze, and report departmental key performance indicators, benchmarks, and other statistical surveys including regular work order performance reports and oversight of the computer based Maintenance Work Order System. Additionally, the Foreman will provide training for management and staff and oversee the development, revision and training of maintenance division procedures and work practices as required. This position will help to maintain and promote good working relationships with maintenance staff along with contractors, consultants, City, Municipal and Provincial Officials and UPEI staff. As required, the Foreman will represent Facilities Management at meetings with various departments on campus. This position is responsible to hold in confidence all matters pertaining to the workplace and perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in the Maintenance/Construction field or equivalent education and industry experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years in a related position with strong demonstrated skills in human resources, planning, organizing and supervision of employees
- Experience working in a unionized environment and maintenance
management experience would be a definite asset - Knowledge of building systems and maintenance and experience working in an
operational/process related role would be a definite asset - Experience using computer systems is required
- Working knowledge of a variety of government acts and legislation such as Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Health and Safety (H&S), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Health Safety, and other applicable legislation would be an asset
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated experience working in a team environment
- Ability to develop and maintain productive interpersonal relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to plan, organize and monitor work activities of self and subordinates
- Ability to organize, analyze, interpret and evaluate problems and provide
practical, cost effective solutions - Experience in maintenance of grounds, snow removal and required equipment is an asset
