Dr. Kathy Snow is seeking one Graduate level Research Assistant to support the preparation of research within Inuit Nunangat on Inuit teacher education initiatives in Canada. The successful candidate must be willing to work at a distance with research co-investigators based across Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include:

  • Collect and organize relevant sources for analysis, including academic literature, government reports, data collected by team members
  • Contact research team members by email or phone to discuss plans for the ethics applications and community protocols, gather their input, report back to supervisor, integrate recommendations or utilize resources provided
  • Create and maintain the annotated bibliography for research publications
  • Draft literature reviews and complete member checking with research participants
  • Edit, improve, revise research reports as requested, or create versions of it for different purposes
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications: (candidate may be asked to provide writing sample in order to demonstrate fulfillment of some of the below criteria)

  • Completion of an Undergraduate Degree related to Education. Enrolled in a Master’s program or a Master’s degree would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Inuktitut (100% fluency not required)
  • Experience living and/or working within Inuit Nunangat, working with Inuit Elders and knowledge of community protocols
  • Experience working with Inuit community-based research organizations (eg. NRI, Aurora Institute etc.)
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely in English for academic purposes, and adjust writing based on mentoring and editing from supervisor
  • Ability to work independently and meet mutually agreed upon project deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled at attending to detail in research and writing
  • Ability to synthesize and summarize information from multiple sources to make accurate and representative claims
  • Ability to identify gaps in data or evidence
  • Proficiency with APA citation formatting
  • Experience participating in research that integrates multiple forms of data (e.g., historical, statistical)

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
