The Robertson Library is seeking applications for a qualified individual to work under the general direction of the University Archives and Special Collections Librarian. Hours will be daytime, Monday-Friday.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Robertson Library manages the University of Prince Edward Island's Art Collection and includes artworks that are in storage or on display in campus buildings. The successful candidate will ensure our inventory is up-to-date and accurate and tasks will include:

  • Updating and creating new inventory records for artworks
  • Creating or enhancing artwork records using appropriate descriptive metadata standards and vocabularies
  • Examining artworks and recording physical condition issues and measurements
  • Photographing artworks and updating inventory records with appropriate images
  • Tracking and documenting progress using spreadsheets and work ticketing system
  • Researching artists as required
  • Tag or barcode artworks as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest in describing artworks
  • Experience with photographic equipment and image editing
  • Organizational, problem solving ,and time management skills
  • Comfortable using web-based tools
  • Motivated and flexible in self-directed and collaborative environments
  • Experience with Google Apps (eg. Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc..), both PC and Mac operating systems and experience  with image editing software
  • Experience handling fragile material with care

Qualifications that would be considered an asset:

  • Knowledge of metadata schema (eg. MODS) and vocabularies (eg. Getty Art and Architecture Thesaurus, Artists in Canada, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the lslandora Digital Asset Management System
  • Experience tracking work using project management software
