The Department of Student Affairs at UPEI is seeking a Learning and Exam Support Facilitator.  This candidate will be working with Accessibility Services facilitating learning supports for students with disabilities as well as coordinating and facilitating the department’s testing and exam accommodation services.  This person will report to the Manager of Accessibility Services and will be an essential part of the Student Affairs team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Learning and Exam Support Facilitator will support individualized learning plans for students with disabilities based on the recommendations in their psycho-educational assessments, medical documentation, and accommodation plans.  The successful candidate will assist students in understanding their learning needs and provide ongoing support, strategies and techniques to enable students with disabilities to capitalize on their strengths and remove barriers to learning. They will also be responsible for administering UPEI and AVC tests and exams for students registered with Accessibility Services in the main and satellite testing centers on campus. Occasional weekend and evening work will be required.

The Learning and Exam Support Facilitator will:

  • Develop student-centered goals and interventions based on students’ needs
  • Provide assistance in understanding learning needs and guidance in developing academic strategies for success
  • Identify barriers and provide strategies to overcome them
  • Collaborate with students to find a variety of tools and strategies they are willing to use
  • Provide support in the form of academic coaching, technology training, assistance with study skills
  • Provide time management and organizational techniques to overcome executive functioning deficits
  • Collaborate and work alongside the Learning Strategist to efficiently and effectively support students
  • Operate accommodations needed for any exam invigilated through Accessibility Services (scribing, text to speech, speech to text, etc.)
  • Ensure academic integrity of all exams
  • Support the Accessibility Support Facilitator with needs related to AccessDeck (including registering students for testing accommodations), training proctors, and scheduling proctors, readers and scribes.
  • Communicate exam location, time and accommodations to students and faculty
  • Oversee exam proctors during exam sessions
  • Refer to other supports and services on campus as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At minimum, a Bachelor's Degree (Post-Graduate work in Education is considered an asset)
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with and providing support for students with disabilities (preference will be given to those who have worked with students in a post-secondary setting)
  • Advanced knowledge of LDs, ADHD and the impacts of mental health on students’ academics and executive functions
  • An understanding of appropriate teaching pedagogies, accommodations and inclusive practices is essential.
  • Experience using assistive technology such as built-in dictation features, Read and Write, Notability, Sonocent, Kurzweil, and the Immersive Reader
  • Effective time management skills including the ability to prioritize and organize work
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills
  • An honest and dependable character
  • Supervisory experience as well as knowledge of the administration and coordination of exams is essential
