Fall 2022

The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a sessional instructor to teach the following course in Fall 2022.

Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

ED 4510-99 – Integrating Indigenous Themes in the Curriculum

This course promotes dynamic ways for the public-school curriculum to acknowledge more faithfully the histories, cultures, worldviews, and teachings of Indigenous peoples in Canada and globally. The importance of developing more culturally responsive pedagogies and assessment practices and more respectful and inclusive research is highlighted. Insights are shared into the processes of recovery for Indigenous communities and the essential supports for their students to experience success at all grade levels.

This is a three semester-hour course offered to students in the Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) programs. The course is offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm, October 31 to December 1, 2022.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education degree. Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content. Where courses are offered on-line using multi-media technologies, applicants will normally be able to demonstrate successful on-line teaching experience.  Fluency in both English and French is an asset.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the academic unit.

The offering of this course is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All sessional courses are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.
