The Department of English invites applications for the position of Sessional Lecturer to teach ENGLISH/ UPEI 1010: ACADEMIC WRITING.  There are two sections available: English/ UPEI 1010-8 (Monday & Wednesday 3:00-4:15 pm) and English 1010-13 (Tuesday & Thursday 4:00-5:15 pm). Applicants should indicate the section to which they are applying. These appointments are subject to final budgetary approval.

ENGLISH /UPEI 1010: Academic Writing introduces UPEI students to the primary writing processes and forms that characterize written communication in academic work and educated discourse. The course emphasizes writing as (a) a means to enhance intellectual discovery and reflection, and (b) to demonstrate learning in a variety of rhetorical contexts. Its integrated curriculum promotes sequenced learning and skills practice while focussing on critical thinking and reading, careful analysis, strategies of effective argument and use of evidence, and effective communication for diverse audiences. It’s strictly limited class size allows for discussion, active learning, peer review and revisions processes, individual attention, and independent and collaborative learning experiences.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching as well as clear evidence of effective teaching experience in first-year university writing studies.  Minimal qualifications for eligible candidates are a Master’s degree in English. Preference will be given to applicants possessing a PhD in English.

Preference also will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit.
