The School of Climate Change and Adaptation is looking for two (2) remote sensing student research assistants for the summer months. The successful candidates will be required to complete a drone training course and obtain a piloting license from Transport Canada (funded).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assisting Graduate Students and Faculty members in:

  • Collecting remote sensing data from drones and satellites
  • Organizing and maintaining drones, remote sensors, and other specialized equipment
  • Conducting field work to establish ground control points and collect geographic coordinates
  • Prepare pre-flight plans and checks
  • Piloting drones (if licensed) to collect remote sensing imagery across Prince Edward Island
  • Completing visual observer duties as part of a drone team
  • Processing drone remote sensing data using specialized photogrammetry
  • Downloading and manage satellite imagery data
  • Managing remote sensing data and equipment records
  • Analyzing remote sensing data using geographic information software
  • Conducting troubleshooting with equipment, software, and data suppliers
  • Coordinating schedules with project stakeholders
  • Reporting data collection and research activities and results

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration in a university or college programme at a recognized institution
  • Environmental science or engineering programme registration would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of climate change impacts and adaptation would be considered an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
