The UPEI Health & Wellness Centre at UPEI is looking for a Registered Nurse who is dynamic, self-starting and an out of the box thinker to join our team.  This person will report to the Director of the UPEI Health & Wellness Centre and will work with physicians, Nurse Practitioners, LPN’s, receptionists, staff and faculty at UPEI and most importantly our UPEI students. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver the immunization program to students, faculty, staff and families
  • Responsible for health promotion activities and population health initiatives on campus and across the island
  • This position requires communication and teamwork with many other departments on campus
  • Contribute to and further improve the health and wellbeing of patients through advanced nursing practice
  • Coordinate annual flu clinics
  • Promote sexual health – provide sexually transmitted infection counselling, treatment and follow up
  • Be liaison for CPHO and oversee vaccine orders, storage and delivery
  • Assist with quality assurance activities (i.e. conduct audits)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and at least 5 years relevant clinical experience (primary care)
  • Experience in the areas of mental health, sexual health, alcohol issues
  • Experience working as a health care professional in a university environment would be preferred
  • Needs to be energetic, self-motivated, trustworthy and patient focused
  • Strong health assessment skills, advanced clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with the ability to relate well to students
  • Experience with health promotion, and have a working knowledge of the philosophy of Primary Health Care preferred
  • Experience with clinical and professional practice leadership
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Flexibility and creativity with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to relate well with students; advanced knowledge of and experience with issues that encircle students on a university campus is preferred
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of issues facing current and potential students on a university campus is required
  • Must hold current registration or be eligible for registration with the Association of Nurses of PEI
