The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in Fall 2022. These appointments are subject to final enrollment numbers and budgetary approval.

Please note: all courses offered will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

ED-4460-2  Intermediate/Senior Science I

This course provides an introduction to basic pedagogical concepts and skills needed for the successful and effective teaching of science to Intermediate/Senior school students. Using the concepts of general science and the provincial science curriculum, the course examines the nature and limitations of teaching, learning and technology within the Canadian science classroom context.

This is a three-semester hour course offered BILINGUALLY in English and French on campus to students in the Intermediate/Senior cohort of the Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) programs.  This course runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., October 31 to December 1, 2022.

ED-6260-13  Technology: Leadership in Learning

This course provides an opportunity for students to examine and critique current research trends in information and communication technology in education. Leadership models for the implementation of technology plans are studied and evaluated. A major portion of work for this course takes place in an online learning environment.

This is a three semester-hour course offered online to students in the MEd Focus on 21st Century Teaching & Learning (Online) from September 7 to December 7, 2022.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education degree.  Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content. Where courses are offered on-line using multi-media technologies, applicants will normally be able to demonstrate successful on-line teaching experience.

Bilingual positions in the Faculty of Education require a proficient knowledge of both official languages. Fluency, in English and in French, in each of the three language skills: reading, writing and oral interaction are essential. Instructors will not be required to deliver instruction in French; however, instructors will be asked to communicate with students in either language during one-on-one or small group discussions. Instructors must also be able to assess all written assignments in either official language.

French positions in the Faculty of Education are delivered completely in French.  Instructors must be proficient in reading, writing, and oral interaction in French.  All class work will be assessed in French.

In addition, candidates applying to teach graduate courses will normally have established expertise, and successful leadership and/or teaching experience in a context related to the foci of the cohort.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the academic unit.
