The Department of Philosophy at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for the position of Sessional Instructor for the Winter 2022 Semester. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

 Phil 2420/ DSJS  2420 - Philosophies of Love and Sexuality

This course explores philosophical issues related to love and sexuality as constructed and experienced in particularly in cultural and historical contexts in Anglo-American culture. Topics may include analysis of love and sexuality as portrayed in music, literature, film and art; kinds of love; conceptions of self and community underlying different accounts of love; sexual activity as expressive, communicative, sacred, profane, athletic, goal-oriented; the commodification of sex; competing conceptions of sexual health and sexual liberation; conservative, liberal, radical and feminist perspectives; ethical issues in intimate relation- ships, families, sex-trade work and pornography. Cross-listed with Family Science and Diversity and Social Justice Studies (cf. Family Science 2440 & DSJS 2420)

Lecture: Three hours a week

Class is scheduled for TTh 4 – 5:15 pm       

Qualifications:

The successful applicants will have a Ph.D. in Philosophy or a Ph.D. Previous teaching experience and/or publications focused on philosophies of love or sexuality or on the teaching of philosophies of love and sexuality, or focused on social philosophy more broadly, or on basic related issues in ethics or applied ethics, will be an asset.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit.
