The Island Studies Program in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a Sessional Instructor to teach IST 6130 - The Political Ecology of Small Islands - Winter 2021. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
IST 6130: The Political Ecology of Small Islands
This course examines the intersections among politics, policy, and island environments. The tension between external economic pressures and trans-jurisdictional environmental protection mechanisms, with particular emphasis on topics such as global warming, fishing stocks, and biodiversity, is examined. Other factors including cultural and political forces that encourage development despite environmental risks also are explored. This course will be taught online.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant should have a Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or area of study, preferably in island studies, or in a related discipline, including political science/studies and environmental studies. Those with a Master’s level degree and at least two years of teaching experience would also be considered for the position. Demonstrated experience teaching courses in an online format would be an asset.
Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit.
