The Office of the Vice-President Academic and Research seeks a Manager to oversee the Office of Research Services.

The Office of Research Services consists of a team of administrative staff who work directly in support of research excellence. The team is responsible for fostering basic and applied research, and building research capacity across campus; overseeing the research compliance and integrity responsibilities of the institution; keeping accurate and up-to-date records for all research funding applications, contracts, grants, and ethics protocols and supplying reports on these activities to UPEI and external agencies; publicizing UPEI’s research accomplishments; nurturing research-related linkages between and among UPEI and other academic, industrial, public and governmental sectors; and supporting and facilitating the transfer of research and scholarly knowledge and technology.

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Research, the Manager of Research Services will oversee the day-to-day functioning of the Office of Research Services, and management of the staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create standardized processes for research administration to ensure compliance with evolving requirements from research funders
  • Liaise with administrative and academic departments/schools/faculties across the University to support the research mission
  • Provide support to principal investigators  through workshops, project planning, and proposal development
  • Serve as institutional liaison with external funders including federal and provincial funding agencies
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of Research Services, including supervision of staff
  • Provide guidance to researchers regarding research services, processes, and requirements
  • Support the recruitment of Research Chairs
  • Facilitate faculty success with NSERC, CIHR, SSHRC, and other granting agencies
  • Collaborate with Synapse on Intellectual Property (IP) and commercialization activities
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders of the research office
  • Provide oversight for research contract development and execution to ensure compliance with university process
  • Manage the research services contract database and related administrative processes
  • Oversee the process to administer research account set up, modification, compliance and reporting
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post graduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 years of research administration experience
  • 3 years of experience in a post-secondary setting
  • Management experience in a unionized setting
  • Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Experience with change management including identifying, establishing, and improving research processes
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and strengthen relationships
