The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a Sessional Instructor(s) for the 2022 Fall semester. We are seeking an instructor(s) to teach the following courses in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: all courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

SOC-1010 - Introduction to Sociology

This course introduces many of the main concepts within the field of sociology such as culture, socialization, norms, social roles, values, deviance, and social structure. In addition, this course utilizes the basic concepts and perspectives in sociology to examine critically and to interpret the kinds of interaction experienced in social institutions such as the economy, the polity, the family, education, and religion.

SAN 2610 – Sex, Gender, and Society

This course examines gender (the social concept of masculinity and femininity) and compares it to current views about sex (the biological distinction of female and male). Several sociological and/or anthropological issues are examined, such as the biological bases and evolutionary development of sexual differences; abortion; homosexuality; sexual violence; and affirmative action. Cross-cultural ethnographic material is introduced throughout the course.

Qualifications:

Successful applicants will have a graduate degree or a doctoral degree in Sociology or Anthropology.

Please note, members of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology’s Sessional Roster will be given priority in consideration for these positions.
