The Faculty of Business at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach courses in the Undergraduate and the Graduate programs in the Winter 2021 semester. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval. Business and accounting courses will be offered online in the Winter 2021

 

Winter 2021:

Undergraduate Program:

ACCT1010 Intro Accounting Part I

This course introduces the accounting model and basic accounting concepts and principles needed to read, analyze and interpret financial statements. An understanding of the role of accounting in society will be explored. Sound ethical judgment for financial decision-making will be stressed. Emphasis is on accounting from a "user's" perspective.

BUS1410 Marketing

This course presents the basic concepts of marketing. It introduces the marketing function, marketing systems and the marketing concept and then focuses on the development of marketing strategies, target markets, and the marketing mix in a decision-making context.

BUS2120 Business Presentations & Communications

This course develops students' presentation skills in a business context. The course emphasizes professionalism and the use of evidence and analysis to support recommendations in order to make a compelling case. 

BUS2870 Introduction to International Business

This course examines the basic issues involved in the internationalization of business, which includes the impact of international focus on business and how firms establish and conduct transactions with organizations from other countries. More specifically, the course examines the basic models of involvement in international business and the conditions appropriate for each. Class sessions will combine seminars and case discussions requiring active participation by all students.

BUS3850-1 Sp. Topics: Modern Business Communications

This course introduces students to concepts and ideas that will make them more effective producers and consumers of modern business communication in English. Students will become better, more persuasive writers; while at the same time developing a personal editorial environment that allows them to be better users of information. Students will develop broad editorial skills that will be used to gauge the value of sources, engage ethically across platforms and demonstrate genuine intercultural sensitivity. 

BUS3850-2 Sp. Topics: Canadian Public Administration

Canadian Public Administration will provide an overview of how the Canadian public sector works, including federal, provincial, and municipal organizations. Specifically, the focus will be on management, budgeting, and operations, with emphasis on accountability, transparency, and the professional public service

BUS4550 Sustainable Tourism Development

This course critically examines sustainable and responsible tourism development practices at both the micro and macro levels of the industry. Case study analysis is an integral component of the course. A major focus will be on benefits and impacts associated with tourism development, as well as the strategies for maximizing benefits and minimizing adverse effects. 

 

MBA Programs:

BUS6590 Project Management

This course provides students with the tools and skills necessary to reduce project risk and increase their ability to complete projects on time and on budget. The course incorporates the latest research on project management methodologies, providing students the ability to evaluate each methodology on their merits and how they have been applied within different industries and situations. The course also examines the evolution of the project driven organizational structure and the impact project management has on the strategic planning within an (international) organization.

Qualifications for undergraduate courses:

Successful applicants will have a minimum of a master's level degree or equivalent with a combination of qualifications and experience. 

Qualifications for MBA courses:

Because these are MBA courses, we seek applicants with a strong combination of qualifications and experience. Minimum educational credentials include a PhD and/or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. In addition, advanced senior management experience in the course topic is preferred, and is a requirement for applicants without a PhD. Prior teaching experience, and knowledge and familiarity with “Evidence-based Management” principles will be considered assets.
