Student Research Assistants (Up to 2 Positions) - Applied Communication, Culture and Leadership - Faculty of Arts
$15.75 per hour
September 1, 2020 – November 30, 2020
The English Department, in cooperation with the Applied Communication, Leadership and Culture program, is seeking Student Research Assistants to support the creation of an Open Educational Resource (OER) for English 2120: Creative Writing. Open Educational Resources make it possible for students to access quality learning materials at no cost to them, which helps reduce the overall economic burden of pursuing a postsecondary education. The Student Research Assistants will be supervised by Dr. Richard Lemm and Dr. David Hickey.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create a series of warm up activities for new creative writers
- Help write the rationale to accompany each exercise
- Test the exercises with a group of students and process feedback
- Evaluate and revise activities to ensure they are instructionally sound
- Provide feedback on the design of the OER
- Participate in the soft launch of the project
- Help promote the resource
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A third- or fourth-year student who has completed one or more creative writing workshops at UPEI
- The ability to write clear and polished prose
- An interest in teaching and/or instructional design
- The ability to collaborate with others
- The ability to work with minimal supervision
- Evidence of a sustained creative practice, preferably in more than one genre
- Enthusiasm for using various types of media to create rich online content
Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
