The department of Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) is seeking a motivated, outgoing person for a one year term position as a Job Development Coordinator – Co-operative Education.  The successful candidate will support the engagement of community and industry partners on behalf of the Co-op Program and work closely with the Co-operative Education Student Coordinator and Academic Directors in the Faculties of Business, Science and Arts.  This position is key to the ongoing success and growth of Co-operative Education at UPEI.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working closely with the Cooperative Education Student Coordinator, the successful candidate will:

  • Proactively promote and solicit the participation of employers in the UPEI Co-operative Education Program
  • Work closely with employers (private, public, NGOs) to identify appropriate work term opportunities for students
  • Be the primary contact for employer partners and navigate challenges as needed
  • Advise students of work term expectations, schedules, and requirements for completion, participate in the collaborative evaluation of work term assignments
  • Conduct routine employer site visits to ensure that the work term is progressing as planned
  • Ensure the employer information contained in the ORBIS database is current and kept up-to-date
  • Assist students in navigating challenges in the workplace
  • Provide support in the expansion of the co-op program to other departments on campus
  • Liaise with the International Relations Office in the promotion of international Co-op work term opportunities
  • Liaise with other government departments that administer career and employment incentive programs to ensure knowledge of these programs remains current
  • Participate in regular meetings with WIL Director, Academic Directors, and the Co-op Student Coordinator to provide program updates and to discuss issues and opportunities
  • Collect data to inform and report on co-operative education
  • Collaborate with staff of the broader unit on programming, connections etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A University degree; a Cooperative Education designation would be considered an asset
  • 2-4 years’ experience in a relationship building and/or promotion role
  • Excellent networking, oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven relationship building ability
  • Strong cultural awareness and the ability to navigate a variety of sensitive issues in a respectful manner
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Excellent problem solving and strategic thinking skills
  • Knowledge of the provincial economic sectors and labour market
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience with social media software and networking applications such as blogs, podcasts, LinkedIn and Twitter
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office tools, Google Applications
  • Drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Experience working in a University environment would be considered an asset
