Student Research Assistant - Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering

A part-time research assistant position is available for an undergraduate engineering or science student with interest in the development of microfluidic technologies for encapsulation of bioactive compounds. The objective of this project is to develop a stable process for incorporation of bioactive compounds into livestock feed using microfluidic systems. In collaboration with MicroSintesis, the student will work under the supervision of Dr. Ali Ahmadi, and will receive training in the areas of micro-fabrication, microfluidics, and product testing and characterization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The students will work on the following tasks:
• Design, fabricate, and test microfluidic systems
• Use image analysis methods to characterize the size distribution of micro-beads
• Develop a drying mechanism
• Perform quality control tests, and optimize the process accordingly
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Basic knowledge of engineering design and engineering drawing (CAD) is required
• Previous experience with 3D printing and proficiency in technical writing is required
