The Department of Philosophy at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for the position of Sessional Instructor for the Fall 2021 Semester. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Philosophy 1050 – Technology, Values and Society

This course explores the connections among technology, human values, and science that are manifested in society, economic systems, and relationships between humans and the natural world. The study of the connections reveals the vast impact that science and technology have on our understanding of the world and our views on the future as well as on personal identity and the human body. It exposes students to critical examination of objectivity in scientific research, progress in technology and science, scientific risk assessment, and genetic engineering. 

No particular background in science is assumed in this course.

Lectures: Three hours a week.

Class is scheduled for TTh 4 -5:15 pm.

This course may be offered in person or on-line

Qualifications:

The successful applicants will have a Ph.D. in Philosophy. Previous teaching experience and/or publications focused on the teaching of ethics, environmental philosophy or technology studies, or on basic philosophical issues in ethics, environmental philosophy, or technology studies will be an asset. 

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit.
