The Department of Music at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach two two-credit hour courses (Music 4530 and 4540) in Secondary Music Education for the 2022 – 2023 academic year. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

MUS 4530 – Secondary Music Education

This course is designed to study the philosophy and methodology of teaching at the secondary school level. It will develop skills in creating curricula, lesson planning, teaching methods and styles, and long-term goals in music education. Students will establish teaching strategies for, and gain classroom experiences in, music pedagogy, rehearsal techniques, improving and developing basic musicianship, nurturing basic vocal and instrumental techniques, developing skills for expressive interpretation of repertoire, and exposing young musicians to a wide variety of repertoire.

MUS 4540 – Secondary Music Education II

This course is a continuation of Music 4530 with a focus on instrumental music pedagogy.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will hold a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Music and at least 10 years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the public-school level.

Members of the Department of Music’s Sessional Roster will be given priority in consideration for this position.
