This is a full-time term, live-in position (during the program) with evening and weekend work required.
Salary:

Commensurate with Experience + Room and board is provided in addition to the salary as taxable benefits.  Room: May 4 to August 7, 2020.  Board: Three meals per day at the Dining Hall during the actual program dates, (Mondays to Fridays, May 25 to June 26; July 6 to August 7) as a taxable benefit.

Term:

May 4, 2020 – August 7, 2020 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements)

The UPEI English Language Centre will offer two Explore Summer Language programs in 2020 for Canadian and International students; a spring program for those 19 years of age and older and a summer program for those 16-17 years of age.  Participants have formal EAL lessons during weekday mornings and organized socio-cultural activities during weekday evenings and weekends. The Activity Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the organization and implementation of the socio-cultural activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Activity Coordinator reports directly to the Explore Program Manager and is responsible for:

  • Organizing socio-cultural activities with the assistance of the activity supervisory staff
  • Supervision of the Activity Supervisors
  • Delegation of tasks for the Activity Supervisors
  • Resolution of workplace conflicts, conducting daily staff meetings and being a liaison between the Activity Supervisors and the Program Manager
  • Organizing and scheduling weekday afternoon workshops
  • Coordination of transportation for off-campus excursions
  • Maintaining the socio-cultural budget, which includes daily expenditures and program revenue
  • Maintaining a spreadsheet for tracking daily expenditures
  • Soliciting support from local businesses and organizations
  • Communicating and enforcing the rules and regulations of the Explore Program
  • Assisting with staff training
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Proficiency in spoken French
  • Experience organizing and planning socio-cultural activities
  • Experience with supervising other individuals
  • Administrative experience; including knowledge of managing budgets
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Leadership experience within a residential setting
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Current criminal record check (must include vulnerable sector)

 Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Class 4 Driver’s License (to drive a 12-passenger van)
  • Mental Health First Aid training
  • Previous experience with Explore Programs
