The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is seeking a highly qualified applicant for a post-doctoral fellowship to work on a funded research project.  The post-doctoral fellowship is for 2 years with a possibility to extend to 3 years, along with a competitive post-doctoral stipend being funded. This appointment is reliant on research funding and may be extended or reduced based on performance and the availability of funding.

The project will involve the collection and analysis of farm salmon production data with the aim of identifying the biotic and abiotic risk factors contributing to an emerging health concern.  This work will be used directly to inform the laboratory-based exposure studies to be conducted at several research facilities including AVC-UPEI, MUN, UBC and DFO-Nanaimo with the goal to develop practical procedures and tools for the management of this same health concern.  The candidate will have opportunities to engage directly with industry and collaborate with researchers and veterinarians in academia, industry and government increasing their network and will be encouraged to present their research at national and international meetings.  

Applicants must have a DVM degree and a PhD in epidemiology, or related discipline. Expertise in aquatic food animal diseases and aquaculture is strongly preferred. Individuals must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and as an effective partner of the research team.

Fluency in English (both verbal and written) is essential.
