The Department of Diagnostic Services at the Atlantic Veterinary College is seeking applications for a student assistant position-alternating weekends.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Bacteriology

  • Receiving and preparation of specimens for culture, primary culture of specimens, transferring culture plates, sub-culturing, inoculating of biochemical tests and plates, while using aseptic techniques under the direction of a technologist
  • Other laboratory and clerical duties may be assigned as required

Post Mortem

  • Responsible for admitting submissions to post mortem
  • Responding to phone calls and assisting the pathologist with post mortems when required
  • Working with fresh animal tissue

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to DVM students who have completed first year of the DVM Program and have relevant bacteriology experience or to DVM students who have completed the second year of the DVM program.

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
